Babies first Christmas

This entry was posted on 12/30/2006 12:02 PM and is filed under 1st Year.

Wednesday before Christmas, daddy traveled up to Bradford PA to bring Grandma Johnson down for the holidays.  On Saturday, Uncle Eric took the bus from Allentown to Harrisburg to join us too.

As the gift exchange between Grandma, Uncle Eric, mommy and daddy always takes some time, we decided we'd do that exchange on Christmas Eve, and then open all of the babies presents on Christmas Day.  On Christmas Eve, Jonathan sat on the chair that mommy was in for the evening, while the girls hung out on the floor with daddy.  We tried once or twice to have Jonathan help mommy rip the paper, but he really didn't seem interested in the ripping part.  But he did like looking at the gifts.  Lydia was happy to just play with some of their existing toys, while Anna had to investigate some of the boxes and gifts of daddy's that were just opened.

Christmas Day we all slept in alittle bit, with the exception of Daddy getting up around 7:30 to do the morning feeding (and then daddy going back to bed for alittle bit).  Once we got up, we pulled the kids presents out away from the tree and then layed them under the tree with the presents in front of them and took some pictures.  As mommy started to open some of the smaller packages, Anna kept reaching for one of the larger presents and kept grabbing at it.  She eventually did hold on to it good enough to start a tear in the paper.  But then she lost interest and starting looking for something else to play with.

Grandma got them each a hard-plastic Sesame Street character that has a button on their belly that plays music and blinks small lights when pressed.  We took those out of the package, and they seemed to like playing with those.  Uncle Eric had gotten them each their own different Elmo character.  They all seemed to like those too.  Mommy and Daddy had gotten them alot of other toys too, and Uncle Bill & Aunt Linda, and Aunt Donna had sent the babies packages too.  Mommy and Daddy also received several checks for the babies from several people including Grandpa & Grandma DeArment, Aunt Sue, Great Uncle Dave, and Great Aunt Florence (if I forgot to list anyone here by name, I appologize, but know that we do appreciate everything we received from everyone).

For lunch, we made up some breakfast food to hold us over until the turkey would be done later in the day.  After eating lunch, we decided to play dinner for around 8:00 so that we'd be really hungry again by the time the turkey was done.  Daddy did the easy part of taking care of the turkey, while Mommy took on preparing everything else.  Since Mommy does most of the preparing of the meal, Daddy takes over most of the cleanup.

In all, the kids had a good Christmas even if they dont quite know what is going on yet.  I'm sure they'll be more in tune with things next year.

Check out the Photos section, as I'll be putting up a bunch of new pictures from the month of December right after I've posted this.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone...and just think, the kids first birthday will be rolling around before you know it.
