Happy 1st Birthday and Doctors Visit

The weather cooperated for the kids first birthday on Monday. With Daddy being off, we decided it might be a nice day to venture up to the outlet stores in Hershey, PA and attempt to eat at Red Robin (a sit-down restaraunt). We had purchased a double and single stroller in addition to the triple stroller for occassions where all of us are out together, and this was the first time we used the new double and single. The new strollers were really nice and worked well. We were able to spoon feed them in the strollers, and recline them so they could drink formula from a bottle.
The girls did not seem to mind shopping too much. But Jonathan does not like sitting still in a stroller that is not moving. So he whined a good part of the day. After shopping, we then tried the restaraunt next door. That did not turn out as good as we hoped. The were able to give us a table where we could wheel the girls up to one side directly across the table from us, and Jonathan on the side to the left of us. Lydia was the first to get loud and fussy. So Daddy held her on his lap at the table. She was quite happy then and calmed down. But then Anna got upset because her sister was out of the stroller having fun and she wasn't. So we ended up bringing her out too. Jonathan was initially intersted in looking around at whatever he could see from his stroller, and playing with Mommy's cell phone semi-placated him for a little while. But he eventually got just as loud as the girls. So we put Anna back in the stroller and brought Jonathan out. Well, he eventually managed to spill Daddy's beer all over the table. Once we were finished eating, we just quickly reloaded them in the strollers and took them to the front. Daddy then went back to the table to handle paying for everything. The sad thing was, regardless of how the kids acted Mommy and Daddy just were not impressed with the quality of the food anyways. After all this, Mommy asked Daddy to rate behaviour for the entire day on the 1 - 10 scale. Daddy gave the girls a 9, and Jonathan a 6! Even though the girls were loud while eating, they were really good for the shopping. Jonathan's whining and restlessness while eating earned him the 6!
Then we had the joy of driving back through Harrisburg right around rush hour. The bridge across the Susquehanna river was pretty congested, but at least it kept moving. Once we were closer to York the traffic was not too bad again (York can be nerve-racking too some days on I-83).
They had their doctors visit on Wednesday. First, here are the quick stats:
Jonathan: 20 lbs, 6 oz. 30 inches tall
Anna: 16 lbs, 11 oz. 28 inches tall
Lydia: 15 lbs, 14 oz. 27.5 inches tall
Overall, the doctor is still pleased with their growth. They are all ranked low in percentile for their age for weight, but their growth has been following the curve all along. So there are no medical concerns at this point. We had not switched from formula to milk yet only because we wanted the doctor's advice on their eating schedule/habits. We were told to go ahead and stop the forumla. We asked if there was any benefit to the new "Stage 2" forumla's vs. milk. He didn't think the forumla had any real benefit over milk, and of course milk is way cheaper. So we will finish out the forumla that we have on hand and switch over. As far as trying to get them to catch up on weight, he suggested adding as much fatty foods/drinks to their diet as they can handle. Things like ice cream or milkshakes, cheese, etc. They should still get 18 - 20 oz. of milk per day. We asked about juices, but he thought juices are not neccessary especially considering there would be more fat in the milk for them.
Well, we made it through the 1st year with healthy babies that are starting to look more and more like little people than babies. By reflecting back on the first year, we are also excited (or, perhaps scared) to think about all of the things they will learn and do in the next year. Walking, running (in three directions at once!), talking, ect.
